My daughter has recently graduated from her program at Serenity Point Recovery. She’s doing so much better now. It’s pretty amazing to see how much she’s changed in such a short amount of time. When my daughter went to Serenity she had been on heroin for a little over a year and hadn’t gone through any rehab before. I was extremely relieved when she finally agreed to get help. My daughter had been on heroin for a little over a year and in that time she went from being a sweet, happy girl to someone who was mean and honestly pretty hateful most of the time. A couple weeks after she got to Serenity she called me crying, saying she hated it there and that she wanted to come home. Promised to do whatever I wanted her to do, go to meetings, whatever I wanted. Her father and I had decided that we wouldn’t help her leave rehab. So neither of us agreed to let her come home to either of our houses. She probably would’ve still left had the staff there not convinced her that she truly needed the program and that she couldn’t get clean and stay clean without some serious help. So, she decided to stay and that was the point where everything changed for her. She started taking everything more seriously and working hard to get everything out of her program that she could. I’m so grateful to those staff members who helped convince her to stay. Without them I have no idea where my daughter would be but it definitely wouldn’t be anywhere good. One of the things that helped with that was that some of the people working there have had to overcome their own struggles with addiction. When she was trying to leave no matter what I said to her all she would say was that I didn’t understand what she was going through because I have no idea what it’s like to addicted to heroin. She’s right, I don’t have any idea what it feels like to be on heroin or what the detox off of it is like. The staff that convinced her to stay however, they did know what it was like and so my daughter actually listened to them. It made a difference to her to know that some of the staff she worked her on her program knew what she was going through and had overcome their own struggles with addiction. My daughter now is doing really well. She’s been home for a while now and hasn’t had any relapses. She got a job and is doing really well with it. She’s makes it there on time and does her work well. I wouldn’t wish for any parent to have to go through what I went through with a child that’s addicted to some substance. However, if you do find yourself in that position Serenity Point Recovery is where you should send them. It’s a place that can and will help them.
