Which Types of Addiction Treatment Does Anthem Nevada Cover?

As mentioned before, your Anthem Nevada drug addiction treatment coverage will depend on the specifics of your personal plan, such as what healthcare services are or are not covered, cost-sharing limits, and in-network and out-of-network providers. Learning more about your individual healthcare plan can help identify the possible opportunities and obstacles you may experience when seeking treatment for a substance use disorder.

Anthem Nevada may offer coverage for several levels of addiction treatment, including the following:

  • Medical detox – Also commonly referred to simply as “detox”, medical detox is the process of clearing the body of drugs and alcohol while under the supervision of healthcare providers who can monitor withdrawal symptoms.3 These providers may offer over-the-counter or prescription medications to treat unpleasant or potentially dangerous symptoms if medically indicated.3
  • Inpatient addiction treatment – Inpatient addiction treatment, where patients reside at the facility for the duration of their care, can last anywhere from a few weeks to several months. While receiving around-the-clock care, patients participate in a variety of therapies that often include individual, group, and behavioral therapies.3
  • Outpatient addiction treatment programs – There are varying intensities of outpatient treatment available for those who are seeking treatment while continuing to live at home.4 Partial hospitalization programs, or PHPs, are the highest intensity outpatient programs available, where patients spend 4 to 8 hours each day of the week at the facility receiving treatment.4 A step down from that are intensive outpatient programs. IOPs do not require as much of a time commitment, but typically require 9 to 20 hours per week of overall participation.4 Standard outpatient programs may be offered on weeknights or weekends and patients do not go as frequently as they would in PHPs or IOPs.
  • Aftercare – Once a patient has completed one or more of the above listed levels of care, they will work with their treatment team to develop an aftercare plan. This plan may include the continuation of individual or group therapy, participation in community 12-Step groups, or moving into a sober living home, based on the patient’s needs.

Other Options to Pay for Addiction Treatment

While the ACA requires health insurance plans like Anthem Nevada to provide some degree of coverage for the treatment of mental health and substance use disorders, there may still be out-of-pocket costs associated with treatment that are not covered by insurance.

It is important for patients to communicate with both the treatment facility and their insurance company to determine what costs they may be responsible for. Patients can also ask the treatment facility if they offer payment plans or sliding scale fees based on income to help cover the cost of treatment.

Additionally, there are other ways to cover out-of-pocket costs for mental health and substance use disorder treatment. Some patients may choose to pay for treatment out-of-pocket or through private insurance. Others may be eligible for scholarships or grants to help cover the cost of treatment. Some treatment facilities may also offer financing options, such as loans or payment plans, to help patients cover the cost of treatment.

It is important for patients to understand that the cost of treatment should not deter them from seeking help. There are resources available to help cover the cost of treatment, and patients should explore all options to ensure that they receive the care they need to achieve recovery.
