The type of addiction treatment you receive is usually determined by what your specific needs are, such as the severity of your addiction and the daily responsibilities that may affect your ability to receive a certain level of care. Thankfully, there are a variety of levels of addiction treatment available to meet those and other needs.

These levels of care, which may be fully or partially covered by Health Net National depending on your individual plan, may include the following:

• Medical detox – Detox, which is the process of clearing the body of drugs/alcohol, can be accomplished safely and more comfortably with the help of medical professionals who can mitigate acute or possibly dangerous withdrawal symptoms.³ On its own, medical detox has little impact on long-term recovery, but can be highly effective as part of a more comprehensive treatment plan.⁴ 
• Inpatient addiction treatment – Inpatient treatment requires patients to reside at the facility while receiving 24/7 care from a team of trained professionals.³ During that time, patients will engage in evidence-based therapies and receive services designed to both develop and solidify their sobriety. 
• Partial hospitalization programs for addiction – Also known as a PHP, a partial hospitalization program is the most intensive type of outpatient programming, requiring patients to spend anywhere from 4 to 8 hours per day in treatment over the course of approximately 3 months.⁵ 
• Intensive outpatient addiction treatment programs – Intensive outpatient programs, or IOPs, are also a form of outpatient treatment that is comparable to inpatient treatment in regards to the services offered and effectiveness.³ Patients  typically spend 9 to 20 hours per week in their IOP, which can last for a few months to a year.⁵ 
• Outpatient addiction treatment programs – A standard outpatient addiction treatment program is a low-intensity treatment offering where individual and group counseling is commonly provided.³ Patients receiving standard outpatient treatment can continue to live at home while participating in the program, which often occurs during evenings or weekends.⁵
• Aftercare programs – After completing one or more levels of care, patients can participate in an aftercare program. This program may involve a variety of services, including individual therapy sessions, sober living homes, or community support such as 12-Step groups.⁵
