This program is the prison industrial complex incarnated. They profit and get awarded BIG government contracts essentially profiting of the pain, trauma, and vulnerability of both recently released parolees as well as homeless folks and people highly dependent on housing/social services.
Other reviewers have celebrated the carwash, a little inside info on it from a former participant they are mandatory for compliance in the program and the workers are not paid for their labor). To me free labor that others profit off of is not truly recovery, but maybe I just have a different definition then them. Just some helpful info for all of those under the false belief that they are truly making these participants lives better by supporting it.
Also, as someone else mentioned the housing is terrible and overpriced even by Bay Area standards (they stack four bunkbeds in about a150ft. sq. room for close to $800/month). Being in such close quarters doesn\'t allow for the space or silence that I have seen help myself and countless others dealing with substance abuse/mental health disorders.
If possible, it usually isn\'t a choice for participants, AVOID THIS PROGRAM AT ALL COSTS!

It was inexpensive Unhealthy food offered, dirty and old facility, improperly trained staff, no exercise room or classes offered. Not aloud to have a car, so getting to the required meetings didn't help make recovery easy. The only good thing about this facility was their ability to get me into transitional housing. That is where the healing truly began.

If you keep an open mind and are willing to accept the help any rehab will work.. in my opinion. I have recommended this facility to numerous people. I attended 9 months of out patient treatment and transitional living as my aftercare treatment.

I recently had to do a paper on a needs assessment in my city. I briefly described that Options for Recovery is an ideal facility unfortunately it is only for women and children. But if that is what a mother or woman wants, this is probably the best place ever. I have too many reasons why, but basically you are retaught basic life skills: manage money, respect yourself, and look for the right kind of people to hang out with, keep a home clean, be happy for your children, responsibilities like checking your auto oil so that if you are single you do not have to rely on a guy, group dynamics and how to respect and accept others. We took turns as a group watching other women's children. In addition, we attended 12-steps, were allowed to attend church services, learned about nutrition and how to bake and cook. We also learned how to make wise choices, avoid anything that would cause us to relapse and so much more. They allowed my two children under the ages of 5 to live there with me. I have been drug free since 1996 but if I were not I would go to the same place.
