Serving the greater Mississippi area, Oxford provides an individualized treatment program for each client. We offer a wide range of therapies and treatment modalities to help you achieve your goal of recovery. We capitalize on our scenic location near a national forest, and incorporate outdoor activates, such as hiking and horseback riding, into our therapies. We also offer music, art, and trauma-informed therapies, in addition to the usual group and individual therapy courses. We also have a variety of treatment modalities, including but not limited to cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and dialectical behavior therapy.
Recovery involves much more than giving up substances; it involves a whole new way of living and connecting with yourself and others. At Oxford, we have an ideal environment that allows us to provide a whole host of activities and amenities that allow you to connect to nature, reflect, restore your physical health, and reconnect. Whether you want to focus on strengthening your body at our fitness centers, meditate on the banks of our private lake, or work with animals in our equine therapy program, our facility will provide a variety of features to not only make your time with us enjoyable, but to give you the best possible head start in recovery.
While your recovery toolkit will have filled up nicely by the end of your time with us, not everybody is ready to move forward alone. Oxford’s aftercare planners and alumni coordinators will make sure you have a plan and a support network for transitioning back into the world after treatment. We also know the importance of making and maintaining a
network of sober individuals, so we’ll connect you with local AA and 12-step chapters and with a national alumni network to provide you with a comprehensive support network for recovery.

Aftercare Support
Addiction recovery does not end with discharge after completing a rehab program. Facilities that offer aftercare planning and/or support work with patients to ensure sustainable recovery by helping to plan and make arrangements for transitional or sober living, help with housing, vocational counseling, etc.12-Step
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
Patients who undergo intensive outpatient treatment continue to live at home and sometimes go to school or work while participating in a highly structured treatment protocol that is focused on ending substance abuse. Programs vary in terms of how much treatment patients receive, how often and for how long. Some facilities design individualized intensive outpatient treatment programs.Client & Family Support Groups
Group therapy is a vital component of addiction recovery treatment, considered as important and effective (sometimes even more so) than individual therapy. Benefits include reducing isolation and loneliness and providing the opportunity to learn from others in recovery. In the addiction setting, group therapy is run by trained professionals who guide participants toward a shared goal of recovery.

Meet the Staff
Jerri Avery, LCAT, Ph.D.Clinical DirectorJerri Avery, LCAT, Ph.D., has over 24 years of experience in federal grant-writing and implementation, social service program management, workforce development, social science research, and governmental and nonprofit leadership. Dr. Avery holds a Ph.D. in public policy and administration from Jackson State University. She has directed programs and conducted research on mental health promotion, drug prevention, and drug treatment initiatives. Prior to becoming Oxford’s clinical director, Dr. Avery served as Director of the Mississippi Department of Mental Health’s Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Services.
Mark SawyerCEOMark Sawyer brings a strong business background and experience in driving clinical excellence in addiction treatment to his role as CEO of Oxford Treatment Center. Prior to coming to Oxford, Sawyer most recently served as CEO at Acadia Healthcare’s Twelve Oaks Recovery Center in Navarre, FL. During his six-year tenure at Twelve Oaks, Sawyer also served as controller, CFO, and Director of Operations. Under his leadership, the center made strides in client satisfaction, employee engagement, and financial metrics, earning the program its first Recovery Division Clinical Excellence Award in 2016. Sawyer’s passion for addiction treatment is rooted in his ability to support those who are committed to helping others. His role includes providing a vision for clinical and support staff to do their best work and giving them the resources they need to make that vision a reality. Sawyer is dedicated to clinical excellence and innovation in addiction care.
Mary L. SmithDirector of AdmissionsWhen patients and families reach out to The Oxford Center, Mary’s role is to connect them with the help they need. Her experience in the addiction-recovery field includes working as a clinical assistant, family program counselor and admissions officer at New Life Lodge in Tennessee and volunteering with 23rd Judicial District Drug Court in Dickson County, Tenn. Her experience also includes managing sober-living homes for women.
Tori Ossenheimer, CTRSDirector of Experiential ServicesTori uses outdoor and recreation experiences as a therapy tool that helps patients overcome self-destructive habits and build a new sense of self to carry them into recovery. She joined Oxford Treatment Center from Community Health and Wellness LLC in Austin, Texas, where she worked primarily with young veterans who faced physical disabilities, substance-abuse problems or other challenges. She holds an undergraduate degree in therapeutic recreation from Southern Illinois University and is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
