The Arbor is a 12-step based Alcohol and Substance Use Disorder program that was created by a team of addiction professionals with over 95 years of experience in the field of chemical dependency. The Arbor Treatment Program is designed as a 15-month program of support and comprised of two core phases: a 90-day residential treatment program followed up with a 12- month aftercare support program.

    The Arbor is a working ranch with a world class equine center. Each week our clients participate in an equine assisted therapy program that utilizes the innate gentleness and natural instincts of horses to help them recognize their own blocks to authenticity, intimacy, communication, and trust.
  • Gender-Specific Programs

    We have taken great steps at The Arbor to provide a safe and supportive gender-specific environment, where each individual can heal physically, emotionally and spiritually with limited distractions. True gender-specific programs, where all programming, activities and living are totally separate for men and women, provides the security to explore the deep wounds of addiction.

  • Jim Walker
    Jim WalkerCEO
    Jim has been actively working in the alcohol treatment and drug treatment field for over 30 years and has provided executive leadership in multiple capacities and organizations including the Greater Austin Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, La Hacienda treatment center in Hunt, Parkside treatment centers, and Heartland Health Systems. Most recently, Jim provided consulting services to Memorial-Hermann Prevention and Recovery Center for marketing, patient access systems, and call center development. Jim has a degree in Education and has been a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor as well as graduate of Johnson Institute of Intervention.

    Mary Lynn Szymandera, LCDC, CEIPDirector of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
    With over 20 years of personal recovery, Mary Lynn’s professional experience includes 17 years at Pavillon International in North Carolina, as a senior counselor and from 2008 to 2009 as the Outpatient Program Manager. In 1999, Mary Lynn developed the Equine Therapy program for Pavillon and served as the Equine Program Director until she moved to Texas in 2010. She is a Certified Equine Interactive Professional (CEIP) through the Commission for Certified Equine Facilitated Mental Health & Education Professionals.
