In North Dakota, both substance abuse and mental health issues are public health concerns. Data from 2013-2014 indicated that just over 9% of adults in North Dakota had a substance abuse disorder, and an estimated 16.1% had some form of mental illness.¹

Alcohol is the most widely abused substance among adults in North Dakota. North Dakota ranks third in the United States for binge drinking rates among adults aged 18 and older.¹
