Keystone Treatment Center

Their approach is non confrontational and in a manner of an AA/ NA group that is more like camp. If I were to need this place again, they would welcome me with open arms and treat me like every other lost soul that goes there, like family. If you are from Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin or from anywhere else, there is no difference in the way you are treated. Keystone Recovery has the strongest rating in my book due to their due diligence in treating people like normal people (is there such a thing as normal) and not some disease riddled leper. ... I love this place, Keystone has given me the tools to take back MY LIFE.

Drug Addiction in South Dakota

Alcohol is the most problematic substance among South Dakota residents, with rates of abuse and alcohol use disorders higher than the U.S. national average. Heroin use, while below national rates, has also increased in recent years, and so has marijuana use among adolescents.

After alcohol, the next most common substances people in SD seek treatment (since 2005) for are marijuana and methamphetamines/amphetamines.4

Rates of mental illness in South Dakota, particularly for major depression, are also on the rise.

Addiction by the Numbers

  • 403,000 South Dakota residents were current drinkers in 2015, and 27,000 of them were underage.2
  • 7,000 people age 12 and older reported using cocaine and 2,000 reported using heroin in 2015 in South Dakota.2
  • Marijuana use among South Dakota adolescents increased from 5.3% in 2013-2014 to 6.4% in 2014-2015.1
  • 10% of South Dakota high school students reported using inhalants in 2015, which is higher than the U.S. national average of 7%.3
  • Almost 67% of substance abuse treatment admissions in South Dakota in 2015 were men.4
  • In 2015, according to a single-day count, 53.8% of people in substance abuse treatment in the state were there for drug and alcohol problems, 30.3% were there for alcohol problems, and 15.9% were there for drug problems only.1

How Much Does Rehab Cost?

Don’t let financial concerns stop you from seeking addiction treatment; there are plenty of payment options available to help you pay for care in South Dakota.

Check your health insurance plan to see if it offers coverage for rehab services. There are many centers that accept insurance, including SD Medicaid and Medicare. Some facilities may let you work out a sliding scale fee or payment plan to help make the cost more manageable.

Check with the rehab centers you’re interested in to see what benefits they offer.

Treatment Options

South Dakota has 49 state-recognized addiction treatment facilities.5 You may be looking for a private or luxury facility. Many of these centers offer mental health services in addition to substance abuse treatment, and a handful offer medication-assisted therapy.

Most of these facilities offer sliding scale costs, which means that the total cost of treatment can be adjusted to the client’s income, keeping treatment more accessible for low-income patients.
